Describe about the Results of triaxial test on samples of a homogeneous soil.
Expert Solution
Step 1 Introduction:-
The triaxial compression test is used to determine the shear strength of soil. It was developed by Casagrande. A and Karl Terzaghi in USA in the year 1936-37. In this method, the solid cylindrical specimen of soil is subjected to stresses which are direct in nature and acts in all three directions which are mutually perpendicular. The test specimen consists of high pressure cell which is cylindrical in shape, compressor and a pore water outlet at the bottom and being commonly used in laboratory. There are three type of triaxial shear test:-
- 1) Unconsolidated- Undrained Test - Quick Test
- 2) Consolidated- Drained Test - Slow Test
- 3) Consolidated- Undrained Test - R- Test
