The muscle cell, which is also known as myocyte, is defined as the specialized animal cell that can shorten its length with the help of a series of arranged motor proteins, especially within the cell.
Cell organelles are the cellular structures present in the cell's cytoplasm and perform different functions to support the cell.
Some of the muscle cell organelles have different names than usual cell organelles, including the cytoplasm of muscle cells known as the sarcoplasm. The endoplasmic reticulum is known as the sarcoplasmic reticulum, and the membrane of the muscle cell is known as sarcolemma or plasmalemma. There are two other parts that will form the sarcolemma that includes basal lamina and reticular fibers. The sarcolemma is responsible for receiving and conducting the stimuli.
The organelles of the muscle cells are:
(1) Sarcoplasmic reticulum: It will surround the myofibrils and will store Ca2+ ions and can release the Ca2+ ions later to cause the activation of muscle contraction.
(2) Myofibrils: These are also the organelle present inside the microfiber. It consists of sarcomeres, which are the muscle cell's contraction unit as they are made up of protein units that include actin and myosin and are striated.
