Define cardiac cycle, and follow the events of one cycle.
The heart is a central organ of circulatory system in animals, which functions to pump blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system to all tissues of the body. The pumped blood from blood is oxygenated and carries essential nutrient to the body tissue. The venous blood carries deoxygenated blood and other metabolic waste products back to heart and then lungs for oxygenation. The heart has four chambers: two atrial and two ventricle. The right ventricle of heart receives blood from the vena cava, which is then pumped to right ventricle. The blood is then pumped to pulmonary artery to lungs for oxygenation. The oxygenated blood is received by the left atrium via pulmonary veins. The left atrium pumps blood to left atrium and then finally to body tissues via aorta. The atrial and ventricular chambers are guarded by atrioventricular valves (AV valves). The semilunar valves are present at the pulmonary artery and aorta in right and left ventricle respectively.
