Define a cardiac cycle and the cardiac output.
Cardiac system or in clinical terms , the cardiovascular system is defined by the entire organ system of heart, the vasculature of blood vessels and the liquid component blood.
The cardiac cycle is the rhythmic beating of all the four chambers of the heart in perfect sync so as to pump blood to the lungs and all other parts of the body. The cycle continues with the rhythmic contraction and relaxation of the heart muscles. The rhythmic contraction event of cardiac cycle is known as systole and the subsequent relaxation of the heart muscles following systole is known as diastole. During systole, the atrium or the upper portion of the heart contracts pumping blood into the lower chambers of ventricle. After systole, diastole happens and the atrium relaxes followed by ventricular expansion to hold the blood in the ventricles. Later, the ventricle contracts which pumps the blood through two large aortas and transfers the blood to the lungs and the rest of the body.
