A portion of a municipal water system contains a 500,000 gallon water tank (water at 70°F), with the elevation from water level in the tank to the entrance to the main line being 150 feet.  Using a flow rate of 1,000 gal/min and the data provided in the data sheet as a starting point, complete the data sheet by computing the missing values.

 

  1. Compute the pressure at the entrance of the line (at ground level) from the tank, and at the entrance to each section of pipe.
  2. Compute the friction loss and the minor losses through the line, making sure to analyze each type of pipe and include all fittings. For Transite (TR) pipe ƒ = 0.010.
  3. Calculate the velocity and pressure in each size and type of pipe.
  4. Compute the pressure at the end of each line.
  5. Compute the pump power (Hp) required to pump the water from the well to the top of the tank if the depth of the well is 2,450 feet..
  6. Assuming that the system is to be flushed by running all of the water from the tank through the longest line, determine how long would it take to flush the line?
