However when subsitutents are present in the benzene ring, they may help in the attack of the nucleophile too. Substitution by using sulfuric acid is known as sulfonation. Reaction of benzene ring with alkyl halide in the presence of aluminium chloride is know as Friedel Craft alkylation.
