A joint can be described as a structure found in between the bones of the skeletal system. The cartilaginous joint can be described as the joints connected by cartilage and provide little movement between bones.
There are two major types of cartilaginous joints:
Synchondroses |
Symphysis |
It refers to the primary cartilaginous joint, which forms hyaline cartilage between the bones. |
It refers to the secondary cartilaginous joint, which consistsof fibrocartilage between the bones. |
It is immovable. |
It allows some movements. |
It contains hyaline cartilage. |
It contains fibrocartilage. |
It is less rigid. |
It is more rigid. |
It provides flexible movement. |
It provides limited movements. |
Examples: joints found in between Epiphyses and Diaphysis. |
Examples: pubic symphysis, vertebrae connected by intervertebral discs. |
