Consider the covalent molecule N 2. Which types of intermolecular forces can be found? dipole dipole attraction, ionic bonds and dispersion forces dispersion forces only hydrogen bonds and dispersion forces dipole dipole attraction and dispersion forces ionic bonds only Previous
Different types of intermolecular forces:
Dipole dipole attraction : it can be defined as the interaction between the the positive end of one molecule to the negative end of another molecule.
Ionic bonds : it can be defined as the electrostatic interaction between oppositely charged ions
Hydrogen bonding : it can also be defined as the electrostatic force of attraction between hydrogen atom covalently bonded to the electronegative element (like O, N and F) and electronegative element of another molecule.
Dispersion forces: it is the intermolecular forces between non polar molecules. Such forces are extremely weak and are are negligible in comparison to hydrogen bonds etc.
