Consider element 16, S. Draw a chart that depicts the relative energies of the first 6 ionization energies for S. Describe why you drew these ionization energies at the relative levels.
12) Consider element 16, S. Draw a chart that depicts the relative energies of the first 6 ionization energies for S. Describe why you drew these ionization energies at the relative levels.
Ionisation energy is defined as the energy required to remove electron from the gaseous form of the element.
The element sulfur i.e S is having 6 valence electrons in the valence shell.
Hence the energy required to remove electron will be less in first ionisation.
Now once one electron is removed, the second electron will be removed from the S+ ion. And since the +ve charge will attract the electron being removed.
Hence more energy will be required to remove the electron now.
Hence the 2nd ionisation energy will be more.
