Researchers were interested in the effects of color on reducing test anxiety. They predicted that participants would report less text anxiety when a Test was printed on pale blue paper compared to white paper. Sixteen participants were randomly assigned to take a memory test in one of the two paper color conditions. All participants took the test at the same time. However, each was sitting in a small private cubicle and could not see other participant's test. The first question of the test asked them to indicate their level of anxiety before starting the exam on a scale of 1 (not anxious) to 9( very anxious) . Data for this hypothetical study are shown below.
