Expert Solution
Step 1

A reaction performed using suitable reagents is helpful to get a desired product. Reagents play an important role for the synthesis of a product. Reagents behave differently with different reactants.

For example: NaOH and NaH both are basic reagents. But they have different actions on alcohol.

NaOH reacts with aromatic alcohols (like phenol) but does not react with aliphatic alcohols. It is because upon reacting with phenol, NaOH gives phenoxide ion which is resonance stabilized but no such stabilization is found in phenoxide ion formed by the reaction of an aliphatic alcohol and NaOH.

Whereas NaH is a stronger base and can react with both aliphatic and aromatic alcohols to give a phenoxide ion.
