In friedel craft reaction alkyl or acyl benzene is prepared.This an aromatic electrophilic substitution reaction.At first a carbocation is formed and then benzene nucleus attacts the electrophile.

But during formation of carbocation of friedel craft alkylation reaction,sometimes rearrangement occurs to obtain more stable carbocation and as well desired product changes so in this way straight chain can't be installed in aromatic ring.
