Expert Solution
Step 1

Empirical formula :-

The simplest formula of a compound which shows only relative number of atoms of different elements present in a molecule of the compound is called empirical formula .

To find empirical formula following procedure should be followed

i) find percentage of elements

 %C = 1244×WCO2Wcompound×100%H = 218×WH2OWcompound×100

ii) Divide percentages of elements  with their respective atomic weights to get atomic ratios.

iii) select smallest atomic ratio and divide all values with this to get simplest ratio of atoms .

If simplest ratio is not integer then multiply all values with suitable number to get integer value.

Simplest ratio corresponds to empirical formula .
