They are present throughout the body like in the walls of hollow organs like the uterus, walls of passageways such as arteries and veins, and tracts of the reproductive and respiratory system by contributing to perform different significant tasks.
Smooth muscles are of two types, single unit ( visceral ) smooth muscles and multiunit smooth muscles.
- Single unit smooth muscles are composed of cells that move and function together.
- Multi-unit smooth muscles are composed of cells that move function independently.
