Introduction
The main force which causes the plate movements is gravity. The gravitational pull acting in the crust also contributes to the plate motion. When a plate containing the oceanic lithosphere meets another plate, the dense sea lithosphere sinks under another plate and sinks into a layer: this process is called subduction. The sinking sea lithosphere absorbs the entire tectonic plate: this is a significant cause of plate movement. Therefore, the oceanic lithosphere is subdivided into several types: that process creates layers in the middle of the ocean where new, hot seashells are formed.
