Compare the infectious routes and targets of Cryptosporidium,
Cystoisospora, Cystoiospora, Cyclospora, and Babesia.
Step 1:
A parasite is an organism that survives at the expense of a host organism. The parasites obtain nutrients for its survival from the host organism which eventually harms the host and may even lead to death of the host (for example tapeworms, fleas, ticks, roundworms, etc).
There are three main types of parasites:
Protozoan parasites include the single-celled organisms. The protozoan parasites can only multiple, or divide within the host. The protozoan parasites are obligate endoparasites (need a host to complete the life cycle).
Helminths include the worm parasites such as roundworm, pinworm, tapeworm, liver flukes, etc. They live inside the host body but can also survive outside the host body and hence are called facultative parasites.
Ectoparasites are present on the outer surface of the hosts. Some examples are lice and fleas.
