Noam Chomsky has suggested that language acquisition cannot be explained fully by the process of learning or the factor of nurture. He proposed that every individual is born with a Language Acquisition Device (LAD). This is the innate ability of human beings to understand the principles of any language. Once an individual is exposed to a language, they use LAD to acquire language at a quicker pace.
Chomsky believed that children acquire language without any formal instruction as they have the natural need for language to communicate with others. In the absence of formal language development, children develop a more innate system of language to meet their basic needs. He found out that children make the same type of errors during the language development period, no matter what language they are being taught. Chomsky also believed that human beings share universal grammar rules across the world. But his research has not identified any specific brain areas or genetic basis that is related to this innate ability of language development.
