Compare and contrast the different types of fluid imbalances.
The body fluids are referred to as fluid present in various tissues of the human body. These fluids, depending on their location, are divided into two major compartments: intracellular and extracellular fluid. Although the specific composition of fluid varies in different compartments, it mainly consists of electrolytes, water, and water soluble molecules. Electrolytes are inorganic compounds that dissociate to form ions in the water. The electrolytes can only exist in their charged ions forms upon dissolving in water, thus, the presence of electrolytes in the body is water dependent. The human body comprises various electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, chloride, bicarbonate, calcium, phosphate, magnesium, and many others.
