Longitudinal Studies: this is often a study process or a design of research that is involved for observation of a variable over a few of your time periods. Longitudinal research is correlational research and the function of this research is to observe a variable for an extended time period. The data which is collected in this research is either quantitative or qualitative.

Example of Longitudinal Studies: In the business field, companies use to observe the effectiveness of the product based on increasing and decreasing manner, they take the survey from the customer for an extended time. It helps the company to figure out that which things in that product should be developed for better functioning.

Cross-sectional studies: Cross-sectional Studies or research are involved with the observation of a variable at a certain point in time. It is based on observational mostly and it is known as descriptive statistics. It doesn't maintain cause and effect relationship which indicates that it can be used to find the reason or cause. The researcher can record the information but the variables cannot be manipulated.

Example: If a researcher wants to study Covid-19 prevalence among the population, the researcher can evaluate those people from different age groups, locations, economical backgrounds, etc but the researcher will observe at a certain point in time.
