1. In order to treat a patient, you may have to remove iron from a solution. If you have
a 25 mL solution that contains 43 ug/dL of iron, how much deferoxamine would you
need to administer to reach a concentration of 23 ug/dL?
2. In order to treat a patient, you may have to add iron to a solution. If you have 25 mL
of a solution that contains 15 ug/dL, how many grams of iron (II) sulfate must be
administered to reach a concentration of 23 pg/dL?
3. In medical laboratories, spectrophotometers are used to determine the concentration
of hemoglobin (Hb) in patients. Normal human levels of Hb in Blood are between
13-18 g Hb/ 100 mL for males and 12-16 g Hb/ 100 mL for females. The analysis
occurs by first creating standards. The blood sample from the patient is then diluted
by 50% before determining the absorbance in the spectrophotometer. Using your
prior knowledge, Excel, and the information below, determine if this male patient has
normal levels of hemoglobin (do not forget about the dilution).
