Clearly explain with diagrams, illustrations and examples how topography influences weather of a local area.
Topography has a significant role on the weather of a place, and temperature and precipitation are influenced by a varied terrain. Temperature decreases with the height thus the higher elevation regions tend to be cooler but in particular weather situations the temperatures can be cooler at the lower elevations. It can occur when a cold front brings shallow cold dense air into the lower elevations and is often called cold air damming and the cold air resists climbing the higher terrain since gravity holds and pushes the denser cold air toward lower elevations. The other way how cooler temperatures can occur at lower elevations is when overnight cooling results in a pooling of cooler air into the lower elevation valleys.
