Expert Solution
Step 1

The reaction given is

H2 + I2 -----> 2 HI

Given : Initial moles of H2 = 0.7

initial moles of HI = 0.5

And volume of flask = 250 mL = 0.25 L                                                 ( since 1 L = 1000 mL)

Hence initial concentration of gases are

Step 2

Assuming y concentration of I2 is formed from HI as per the reaction to reach equilibrium.

Hence concentration of H2 formed is also y.

And concentration of HI reacted = 2 y

Hence final equilibrium concentration of gases are

[HI] = initial - reacted = 2 - 2y

[H2 ] = initial + formed = 2.8 + y

[I2 ] = initial + formed = 0 + y = y
