Question

CH4 + 2 O2 = CO2 + 2 H2O

Enter whichever is greater: the number of grams of CO2 produced by 16.0 grams of methane, or the number of grams of CO2 produced by 16.0 L of oxygen.

Expert Solution
Step 1

   CH4+2O2=CO2+2H2O  from the above equation, it is clear that 1 mole CH4 give 1 mole  CO2 and 2 mole O2 give 1 mole CO2.  16g CH4 produce 44g CO2   2 mole oxygen=2×22.4L   44.8L O2 give 44g CO2       16L O2 give =4444.8×16 g CO2                         =15.71g CO2    Hence, 16g CH4 produce more no of grams of CO2 compare    to 16L of O2
