CASE 4: Partially Compensated Acid/Base Imbalance Jo Anna has taken up mountain climbing and recently participated in a group climb on Mt. Hood in Oregon. During her climb, she sprained her knee and was unable to get to the peak. She has since returned to New Orleans where she has been taking several different over the counter pain medications to try and combat the pain and swelling. During this time, she noticed that she has had a burning sensation in the epigastric region and she has been breathing rapidly even though she relatively inactive due to the knee. Last night the pain was extremely bad and she doesn't recall exactly what or how many "pain pills" she took. Vitals are as follows: RR: 23 breaths/min HR: 95 bpm BP: 100/70 mmHg Weight:145 lbs Case 5 - Question 1: Based on available test results, how would you classify her acid-base disturbance? What lead you to this conclusion? Justify your answers with normal and abnormal test results. *NOTE Since this case is partially compensated please tell me which of the abnormal values is causing the imbalance and which of the abnormal values is due to compensation.
