The problem is that my books and software are outdated. I recommend that you order new textbooks and new software for my Computer Skills lab. I hope that you will approve this proposal and order the books this week. New books and software will improve my students' computer skills and improve their grades. The Problem with Current Books and Software Currently, I teach five classes each day. There are 25-30 students in each of my classes. This means I am responsible for over 100 students. We do not have an updated textbook to use for typing. The textbooks we have are the same ones that we have been using for many years. The information in the textbooks is outdated. In fact, these are the same books we used when we had typewriters instead of computers with keyboards. We also do not have good software for teaching. The program isn't reliable. It is also very outdated and is different from the textbooks. Another problem with these textbooks is that the information is very basic. The books do not include information about word processing or computer applications. The only thing in the books is simple typing. Furthermore, because the students have lessons every day, they need interesting materials; but both the books and the software are very boring for students A Solution to the Problem The purchase of new textbooks and software will benefit all of my students. I propose that we order textbooks and software from Glencoe Publishing. I have worked at two other colleges which used this software. The other teachers at both of these schools agree that this software is a good choice. It is very up-to-date and it is also challenging and fun for the students. The title of the book is Glencoe Basic Computer Skills. The software that comes with the textbooks is called GPBCS. This is an excellent choice for a textbook and software combination. The GPBCS software and the textbook are integrated. The students can type the textbook exercises into the software program on the computer. Moreover, they can get an immediate score of the errors and speed of each lesson. The software is easy to use and install. Students have their own password and screen name, and their progress is automatically saved after each lesson. Conclusion In conclusion, I think it would be a great benefit to our college if you approved this proposal and order textbooks and software for my lab. Before students can advance to their major courses, they must have basic computer skills. The most basic computer skill is typing. If students cannot use a keyboard, they cannot use a computer. Purchasing this program will ensure that students can benefit from the technology which they need to continue their studies at the college. Please provide feedback as soon as possible because new courses will begin on APRIL 11, 2016, and purchasing usually takes at least six weeks.
