Transcribed Image Text:### 1. Biomes and precipitation
A **biome** is an ecological area characterized by a specific type of climate and vegetation. Most often, the climate factor that defines a biome is the amount of precipitation, or water—either liquid or frozen—that comes from the atmosphere. Subtle changes in precipitation between different areas can drastically change the type of biomes found there, even if the areas are very close together.
In North America, the state of California is unique because it contains a high diversity of the world’s biomes within its own borders. The three photos that follow show examples of three distinct biomes found in California. For each photo, choose the appropriate description of the vegetation and then name the biome.
