What are the factors that affect carbohydrates?
Carbohydrates are sugar molecules rich in carbon and hydrogen and have a functional group as aldehydes or ketones. These are the primary source of energy in the body. Complex carbohydrates are digested in the body and monosaccharide units like glucose are released which are then absorbed into the blood through the walls of the small intestine.
The concentration of glucose in the blood is kept in the optimum range by the pancreas as it releases the hormones insulin and glucagon. Insulin helps in glucose uptake by the cell and glucagon performs the opposite thus increasing blood glucose levels.
Glucose inside a cell is further catabolized top for pyruvate molecules which are further utilized in the generation of energy in the cell.
