Below is the question I am having a problem with as well as the portion of the answer I have come up with. I do not know if I am right or not, but I need an explanation to understand this, please.    What information does the F ratio on the SPSS output for an independent sample T test provide?  That is, what assumption does it test. A researcher might use the independent sample t test when he assumes that there will be equal mean populations between to variances.

To calculate the independent sample t test, one would use this formula: t = m1-m2
