Before the transplant, the patient will be assessed to know if they are fit to undergo a transplant and tolerate lifelong medications and also if they have any medical conditions that would decrease the transplant success rate. The willingness of the patient to take medication and lifestyle changes after transplant will also be evaluated. While waiting for a transplant, the patient will be advised to follow the diet prescribed, no alcohol, no smoking, maintaining a balanced weight, following prescribed exercise regularly, and ensuring all appointments are kept .On both the donor and the recipient, the following test will be done to check for fitness and compatibility x-rays, ultrasound tests, stool examinations, urine analysis, blood tests, serology tests, and any other tests that are deemed necessary. The first test will involve a blood group compatibility check followed by tissue compatibility. An endocrinologist, cardiologist, or psychiatrist will examine the patient and donor. Once all the test has been done, a decision will then be made on the suitability of the donor and fitness for transplant in the patient.
