He is considered as a pioneer in the field. He is known for being an economic determinist. His theories center around the class conflict between proletariat and the bourgeoise. He supported the rights of the workers by overthrowing capitalism and establishing socialism in its place. He gave five stages of the evolution of society from primitive communism, slavery, feudalism, capitalism and lastly communism/socialism. He believed that Capitalism will fail because it has its own seed of destruction.
