Title of Lesson: Vowel Unit -Differentiating Vowels from Consonants.
Objectives and Standards:
The student will be able to differentiate vowels from consonants orally with 100 percent accuracy (2c,
5a, L1b).
Classroom Preparation:
The alphabet chart needs to display only the vowels. A handout will be shared with all
students. Magnetic boards with magnetic letters and cloth boards with cloth letters need to
be placed at each group table.
Lesson Preparation: Preorganizer:
Cover consonants on the alphabet chart and post each vowel on the board. Also, post words
that begin with the vowel on the board.
Bridge (anticipatory set, focuser):
Recite the alphabet as a class. Then have one student read the letters posted on the board.
Introduce New Knowledge:
Ask student why there are only six letters posted on the board and why the rest of the
alphabet chart is covered.
The teacher will explain to students why these letters are vowels and how they are different
from the rest of the letters.
A Power Point presentation will be shown to the class. We will discuss the slide show and the
