Question
At a certain temperature, the equilibrium constant for the chemical reaction shown is 7.14 × 10-³. At equilibrium, the
concentration of AB is 3.125 M, the concentration of BC is 2.525 M, and the concentration of AC is 0.270 M. Calculate the
concentration of B at equilibrium.
AB(aq) + BC(aq) = AC(aq) + 2 B(aq)
[B] =
M

Expert Solution
Step 1

The Equilibrium Reaction given in the question -

AB(aq)+BC(aq) <=> AC(aq)+2B(aq)

Then, Equilibrium constant -

Kc = concentration of Products/concentration of Reactants

Kc = [AC][B]2/[AB][BC]

Here,

Kc = Equilibrium constant = 7.41×10−3

[AC] = Equilibrium concentration of AC Product = 0.270 M

[B] = Equilibrium concentration of B Product = ?

[AB] = Equilibrium concentration of AB reactant = 3.125M

[BC]  = Equilibrium concentration of BC reactant = 2.525 M
