You will first construct an appropriate set of hypotheses, H0 and H1, regarding your data. This might involve undertaking initial research to figure out a meaningful set of hypotheses.

 

Complete the following steps and submit as your primary post:

First

  • Briefly explain your survey and the data variable you are investigating
  • Include your Statcrunch report, either as an attachment or (even better) paste is into your discussion post 

Then

1. Write down the null hypothesis.

2. Write down the alternative hypothesis.

3. Explain why you chose your hypotheses.

4. Perform a hypothesis test of your data at α = 2% level of significance for the population mean by carrying out the following eight steps:

a. Write down the degrees of freedom, n-1

If it is left-tailed test, what is the critical value, -t0.02?
If it is right-tailed test, what is the critical value, t0.02?
If it is two-tailed test, what are the two critical values, ±t0.01?

d. Write down the test statistic, t0.

e. Write down the P-value.

f. Write down the sample size, sample mean, and sample standard deviation.

g. Use the classical method to reach a conclusion on whether or not to accept or reject the null hypothesis. Be sure to explain how you reached your conclusion.

h. Use the P-value to reach a conclusion on whether or not to accept or reject the null hypothesis. Be sure to explain how you reached your conclusion.

5. Perform a hypothesis test using all of your group data (instead of 50), employing either the classical method or the P-value method. Is the result of whether or not to reject the null hypothesis the same?

6. Do the conclusions make sense to you? Why or why not?

When undertaking part 4, try to use a data set that no other student in the class has used to ensure your results will be unique. Randomly choosing your 50 data will ensure unique results
