A website can have 4 types of structures:
- Hierarchical - The hierarchical model is often used in web applications that contain a large amount of data. The page follows a tree-like structure. The root of the tree will be the HOME page.
- Sequential - These models are helpful when the website is related to filling out some application or onboarding.
- Matrix - This type of website allows navigation to multiple pages and from multiple pages using links. A great example of such is Wikipedia
- Database Model - This is a bottom-up approach model where the focus is more on the data.
For the above-said website, the hierarchical model is best suited because the page itself is of hierarchical nature. Home can be root, browse and movie templates are children of the home. View Details can become a child of the Movie template.
It cannot be sequential because the application does not necessarily have any steps. Whether to browse for certain movies or to view more details is up to the user to decide. The application does not decide the steps to be followed for navigation.
It also cant be a matrix as the application is simplistic in nature. The database model is eliminated because of the interface-centric application nature.
