Reasons of interrupt-driven I/O better than programmed I/O:

  • In the programmed I/O, CPU spends most of its time in a tight loop waiting for the device until I/O is completed.
  • But in the interrupt-driven I/O, the processor does not wait for until the I/O operation is complete. Rather the processor do the other operation.
  • Therefore, the interrupt-driven I/O is better than programmed I/O.
