Analyse the reason behind the positive and negative torques produced by three phase synchronous motor.
Analyse the reason behind the positive and negative torques produced by three
phase synchronous motor.
In a three-phase synchronous motor. The stator is supplied with the three-phase ac while the rotor is provided a dc supply.
The torque of the synchronous motor is given by the expression:
The three-phase synchronous machine cross-section is shown below:
The synchronous motor is a constant speed motor, the electromechanical torque produced in the motor has a direction such that the interacting stator and the rotor field can be aligned along the same axis.
When the synchronous machine is operating as a motor the electromechanical torque produce will act along the direction of the rotor of the motor.
When the synchronous machine is operating as a generator the electromechanical torque opposes the direction of the rotation of the motor.
