The resistance of a material is directly proportional to the length of the material and inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of the material.
Mathematically the formula is given as:
where,
ρ = resistivity of material
l=length
A=cross sectional area
The resistance of the same material is also a function of temperature.
If a material has positive temperature coefficient, then with increase in temperature the resistance of the material increases e.g. of such material is conductors.
If the material has negative temperature coefficient, then with increase in temperature the resistance of the material decreases, the example of such materials are insulators.
