Alzheimer’s and Dementia became synonymous with aging and that is not only wrong but flat out dangerous as it creates the foundation for prejudice and fear around aging. Neither of those are absolute outcomes of natural aging! If you become mindful in living, through exercise, nutrition and staying awake & alive at all ages, there is no “natural path” to severe issues – there are many who do manifest it but it is not the majority of folks!  And, yes, there is absolutely a certain amount of natural short term memory issues that age brings (the where did I put my hat or who was it I just called moments) but if you don’t panic and use simple tools they are just part of tide and time along with all natural aging issues (gravity becomes very personal after age 50 as you will learn when you try to jump up from the sofa after a long movie and your body wonders who you think you are trying to do that at 50 vs. 25!).  However, there are some folks who do exhibit true Dementia or Alzheimer’s (not the same things) and we are doing important research biologically but also sociologically.  I love this option – what factors in society do you believe has delayed this model from becoming the primary path?
