Expert Solution
Plasma Membrane

The plasma membrane separates the interior of the cell from the extracellular environment. It consists of proteins and lipids. The lipid bilayer is the structural basis of all cell membranes. It is impermeable to all the ions and most of the polar molecules. Proteins embedded in the phospholipid matrix helps in the transporting many substances through the plasma membrane.
