![Problem:
As part of your role as an epidemiologist at a large primary colony, you gather some
vital statistics for rhesus monkeys, Macaca mulatta, kept at the colony during the year
1989.
A census on January 1, 1989, showed a total population of 798 animals, of which 452
were under 6 years old and 346 were 6 years and older. On January 1, 1990, there
were 802 animals, of which 320 were at least 6 years old, and 482 were under 6 years
of age. During the year, 376 infants were born alive, there were 25 stillbirths, and 45 of
the liveborn infants died during the first 4 weeks of life.
There were 107 deaths from all causes in the colony (this includes infant deaths but not
foetal deaths). Of these deaths 40 were in rhesus 6 years and older: (specifically, 6 from
old age, 8 from cancer, 14 from accidents and 12 from all other causes).
Define (in words and numbers) the following rates. Show numerators and denominators.
It may not be possible to calculate all rates from the information provided.
a. Crude death rate
b. Age-specific death rate for rhesus under 6 years old
c. Neonatal mortality rate (for first 4 weeks of life)
d. Case-fatality rate due to cancer for rhesus 6 years or older
e. Stillbirth rate
f. Age-cause specific death rate for rhesus 6 years or older for cancer
g. Proportional mortality rate for rhesus 6 years or older for accidents](/v2/_next/image?url=https%3A%2F%2Fcontent.bartleby.com%2Fqna-images%2Fquestion%2F2d483a31-cfe6-419b-802a-ee9ff1eedcdb%2Ff50e9bd4-a518-4e55-a8d0-c382b00391b6%2Fpo3hxa3_processed.png&w=3840&q=75)
