The concept of someone having a different demeanor than what was considered normal was foreign to most of my schoolmates throughout elementary school through high school.

I started to notice all of my classmates fitting into groups of friends with similar interests; however, I still couldn’t find a group that would accept me for who I was.

I am an extremely introvert. Back in my mind, feeling obligated to be an outgoing, talkative person wasn’t me. I notice when I talk with people I can sense they truly don’t care.

I would consider myself a card-carrying introvert, I am one of many people whose personality confers on them a preference for the inner world of their own mind rather than the outer world of sociability. Depleted by too much external stimulation, we thrive on reflection and solitude. Our psycho opposites, extraverts, prefer schmoozing and social life because such activities boost their mood. They get bored by too much solitude.

Introverts are not driven to seek big amounts of positive emotional arousal- they’d rather find meaning than bliss- making them relatively immune to the search for happiness that permeates contemporary American culture. In fact, as American life becomes increasingly more competitive and aggressive, to say nothing of blindingly fast, the pressure to produce on demand, be a team player, and make snap decisions cut introverts off from their inner power source, leaving them stressed and depleted. Introverts today face one overarching challenge-not to feel like a misfit in their own culture. As an introvert by nature. Losing friends hurts as it's hard to have the opportunity as I don't surround myself with people. I prefer a few intimate friends then multiple less-intimate friendships.
