3. After reading the scenario, fill in the table with the following information:
A cancer biologist is interested in analyzing the anti-cancer effects of two different drugs (A and B)
individually and in combination. He purchases four male mice that were all cloned from the same
original mouse (and therefore are all genetically identical). He then injects 500 PC3 cancer cells just
under the skin on the back of each mouse. The tumors are allowed to develop for four weeks in all
of the mice before beginning any treatments with the anti-cancer drugs. After four weeks, he injects
mouse 1 with drug A, mouse 2 with drug B, mouse 3 with a mixture of drugs A and B, and mouse 4
with plain water (no drugs). He then observes the mice as they either succumb to or recover from the
cancer they developed and notes that mouse 1 and 2 both lived longer than mouse 4, and mouse 3
lived the longest of all. All of these mice were maintained in the same type of environment and cared
for in the same manner throughout the entire experiment (e.g., all received the same amount and
type of food and bedding, water and food were changed and/or replenished at the same time every
day, each were exposed to eight hours of daylight per day, and the temperature within each cage was
kept the same).
