T cells basically mature and produced in the "thymus". The main function of these cells is to recognize foreign substances or particles (antigen) via a highly variable, surface-expressed, (TCR) T cell receptor. There are two distinct kinds of T cells are present:
- the helper T cell
- the cytotoxic T cell.
The helper "T cells" 'help' various other cells of the "immune system", whereas, cytotoxic T cells eliminate or destroy the tumor and virally infected cells. The cytotoxic t cell "activation" leads to the immediate killing of the targeted cell via the induction of apoptotic signals through means of lymphokines and cytotoxic granules.
