A horizontal line was measured using a 50 m steel tape suspended in catenary supported at both ends.
After applying all the corrections, the deduced length of the line was 170.38 m. Later on, it was found
out, that there are misalignments occurred when the surveyor traced back the lines. The deviations are
as follows: 5 dm to the left, 3 dm to the right, 4 dm to the left and 6 dm to the right. Normal tension was
applied all throughout the measurement. The tape is of standard length at a temperature 10°C and a
pull of 50 N. During the measurement the temperature reading was 15°C. The cross-sectional area of
the tape was 6.50 mm? and the modulus of elasticity is 200 GPa. The mass of the tape is 0.075 kg/m
and the coefficient of linear expansion is 11.6 um/m°C. Unit weight of steel is 7850 kg/m. Determine the
