A. Define Electric field strength B. State five practical applications of capacitors C. Name five types of capacitor commonly used D. Define Permittivity
(A) Electric Field Strength :-
• The Electric field strength at any point is defined as the the coulomb force F exerted per unit positive electric charge at that point.
• It is represented by E and E = F/Q
• Unit :- N/C where N= Newton , C = coulomb
(B) Practical applications of capacitor :-
(1) Capacitors are used to store electrical energy in car audio.
(2) Capacitor is used to improve the power factor in power system
(3) To start single phase induction motor capacitor is connected in the auxillary windings.
(4) Capacitors and inductors are applied together in tuned circuit to select information in particular frequency bands . Hence capacitor used in radio receivers.
(5) Capacitors are used in DRAM to represent information either in binary form or analogue form.
