Question

A toy car has a friction coefficient of 0.03. On a 30 degree incline starting from rest, what distance will the toy car have covered after 5 seconds?

Expert Solution
Step 1: Draw a diagram for the problem and write the given quantities:

This is a question regarding to the motion of a body under gravity.

The figure for the problem can be given as:
Physics homework question answer, step 1, image 1

Here N is the normal force, f is the friction force, m is the mass, g is the acceleration due to gravity, θ is the inclination angle, and a is the net acceleration of the mass along the inclined plane. The object will move down the inclined plane due to its weight. And so the direction of the force will be up the plane. This is because the friction force always acts in a direction opposite to that of the motion of the object.

The given data is:-

The coefficient of friction is: μs = 0.03
The initial velocity is:  u = 0 m/s
The angle of the inclined surface is: θ = 30°
The time elapsed is given as: t=5 s

And also note that the acceleration due to gravity is: g=9.8 m/s2.
