a) Resistive Temperature Detector (RTD) is a transducer to measure temperature. List out
TWO advantages and TWO disadvantages of RTD transducer.
b) Explain with diagram the working principle of thermocouple. List out TWO advantages
and TWO disadvantages of using thermocouple as temperature sensor, in comparison
with thermistor.
c) A type K thermocouple is connected to a differential amplifier with an amplification
gain of 100 and is used to measure the liquid temperature in a tank. For a certain
measurement, the amplifier produces an output voltage of 3.5 V at the thermocouple
reference junction of 23.5 °C. Calculate the measured liquid temperature based on the
output produced. The thermocouple property of type K thermocouple is shown in Table
Q2 (thermocouple voltage is in mV). Based on the calculated temperature, what is the
new output voltage of the amplifier if the reference junction is suddenly changed to
27°C?
