Question

A piston-cylinder device contains air initially at 350 kPa, 650 K and 0.4 m3 undergoes a thermodynamic cycie as follows:

1 -2: A compression process from initiai volume ta 0.2 m3. This process
follows polytropic law, PV 1.25 constant.

2 -3: An isobaric expapsion process to 0.4 m3.

3 - 1: An isoihoric process to the initial pressure.

i) Determine the pressure at state 2 and 3kPa.
ii) Calculate the mass of air, kg.
iii) Sketch the cycle on a P-v diagram and label all pressures and volumes.
iv) Calculate the temperatures at state 2 and 3, K.
v) Determine the net work fcr the entire cycle, kJ.
vi) Calcuiate the heat transfer for each process, kJ

Assume air as an ideal gas, take R = 0.287 kJ/kg.K and Cv=0.718 kl/kg.K.
