Expert Solution
Step 1: Introduction

Timers are typically used to control a circuit for a set period. We can delay the operation of the circuit using timers. In an electric circuit, three types of timers are most typically employed: On-delay timer is one, off relay timer is another, and star delta timer is the third. All of them are basically identical, but the delaying operation will differ. Let's look at the primary differences between on-delay and off-delay clocks in this article.

Off Delay Timer:

You may recognize the term "off-delay = delayed off" from the word itself. This means that even if the timer's input power is turned off, the timer continues to give contacts to the departing circuit.

Simply put, we'll use an example.

Assume you have an off delay timer with a delayed operation of 25 seconds configured in the time dial. Now you give the timer the input voltage, and the timer promptly selects the voltage and changes the contacts from NO to NC and vice versa.

If you don't have a contact, the contact will be NC until the timer is powered up. The timer's power is now turned off. The key here is that the timer will not reset the contact until the time delay you specified in the time dial, which in our instance is 25 seconds.

The input signal is turned off, but the contact remains closed, as shown in the diagram. Off delay timers are the name for such timers. These off delay timers are used in motor cooling systems; cooling systems are typically designed with cooling motors that run in tandem with the main motor; to cool the motor after the main motor has been turned off, the cooling motor is made to operate for a period of time using these off delay timers.

In the autotransformers starter circuit, a time delay timer is employed. Timers with an off-delay delay are more expensive than timers with an on-delay delay.
