A General Theory of Crime suggests that low self control leads to crime. How would you apply this to organized crime and is it not planned and executed very similar to business planning?
The general theory of crime was proposed by two American Criminologists, Travis Hirschi and Michael R Gottfredson, in 1990. According to the idea, crime is an "act of force or fraud undertaken in the pursuit of self-interest". Conduct of crime thus relays upon two components;
1. The opportunity for crime
2. Low self-control.
Low self-control in children, they associated with insensitivity, risky behaviour, impulsiveness and short-sightedness. Child-rearing practices and parenting have a heavy influence on children's criminal orientation.
